The KB10 Sunny Coupe is based on the B10 Datsun Sunny sedan, which was released in April 1966. Initially only a two door sedan version of the Sunny was available, then in 1967 a four door sedan, a pickup and a van were added to the range. Then, well over two years later, the coupe was released.

The Nissan Sunny (Japanese: 日産・サニー, Hepburn: Nissan Sanī) is an automobile built by the Japanese automaker Nissan from 1966 to 2004. In the early 1980s, the brand changed from Datsun to Nissan in line with other models by the company. Although production of the Sunny in Japan ended in 2004, the name remains in use in China and GCC countries for a rebadged version of the Nissan Almera.

The second-generation Sunny, launched in January 1970, was significantly larger, with an overall length of 3,830mm (+30mm), an overall width of 1,495mm (+45mm), and a wheelbase of 2,300mm (+20mm). April of the following year saw the addition of the Excellent Series (Sedan/Coupe), high-grade models equipped with the L14 engine.
